Today, Congressional Western Caucus Chairman Doug LaMalfa (CA-01) released a statement supporting President Trump’s Executive Order to expand American timber production. 

“President Trump’s action to immediately boost timber production is great news for the American economy,” said Chairman LaMalfa. “This move will uplift our domestic timber industry and lessen the need for imports while creating jobs in local economies and lowering costs in construction, manufacturing, and shipping. The order also expedites permitting for forest management projects to reduce wildfire fuels and lower the risk of catastrophic fires. I would like to thank President Trump for his decisive leadership. The Congressional Western Caucus stands at the ready to help legislatively to increase timber production and build on the success of the Fix Our Forests Act.”  

The Executive Order: 

• Directs the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service to issue new or updated guidance to facilitate increased timber production 
• Set a target for annual timber sales from Federally managed lands for the next 4 years 
• Allow categorical exclusions to reduce lengthy permitting processes for forestry projects 
• Reverses policies detrimental to domestic timber production
