WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 3746, the Fiscal Responsibility Act, a responsible debt limit increase that cuts spending, saves taxpayers money, and grows the economy with much-needed permitting reform. The Fiscal Responsibility Act passed with a bipartisan vote of 314-117. Chairman Dan Newhouse (WA-04) released the following statement in response to its passage: “For too long, unelected bureaucrats in Washington, D.C., and radical environmentalists have twisted public policy to slow down, or even completely halt, critical infrastructure projects. This has been devastating to the rural communities across America who feed and fuel our nation and has forced us to rely on our adversaries for critical minerals and our energy supply, placing our country in a precarious position on the global stage and hurting our environment. At the same time, American families are struggling to make ends meet thanks to the federal government’s reckless spending. The Fiscal Responsibility Act will bring sanity back to the halls of Congress by lowering spending while modernizing and reforming our permitting process to make it easier to build in America, and finally allowing such important projects as the Mountain Valley Pipeline to be completed. As Chairman of the Congressional Western Caucus, I am pleased to see these reforms included in this package and proudly voted YES on them—for rural America.” |
