Western Caucus Chairman Dan Newhouse (WA-04) and five Members sent a letter to the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) in response to the Council’s request for public input on America’s groundwater challenges. The letter reiterates that groundwater should remain regulated by states and tribes, not the federal government.
 
“Americans deserve transparency in policymaking, yet the Biden-Harris Administration seems to be contemplating a major change in groundwater regulation behind closed doors,” said Chairman Newhouse. “Behind the scenes efforts to further regulate landowners and communities should cease, and the Federal government should stay out of the way of those who know how to best manage our lands and resources. PCAST should be prompt in their response to these important questions and more engaged with impacted stakeholders.”
 
Also signing the letter are Reps. Cliff Bentz (OR-02), Andy Biggs (AZ-05), Jake Ellzey (TX-06), Russ Fulcher (ID-01) and Mike Simpson (ID-02).
 
Organizations supporting the letter include the Essential Minerals Association, Independent Petroleum Association of America, National Association of Home Builders, National Mining Association, National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association, and Responsible Industry for a Sound Environment.
