Today, Congressional Western Caucus Chairman Doug LaMalfa (CA-01), House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Bruce Westerman (AR-04) and Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Environment Chairman Morgan Griffith (VA-09) released statements in support of President Donald Trump’s executive order to boost domestic coal production.
“Coal is a key part of America’s affordable and reliable energy mix,” said Chairman LaMalfa. “Unfortunately, this fuel source has been under attack by the radical left which has tried to ban its use even as energy demand skyrockets. I’m glad that President Trump took action today to increase domestic coal production. This will create jobs in rural economies and provide more Americans with affordable electricity.” “As America's energy demand grows exponentially, we must ensure we are using all of the tools in our toolbox to keep the lights on,” said Chairman Westerman. “Coal remains an important part of that energy equation, and no one produces it cleaner and more responsibly than we do. Today's executive orders are a critical step in ensuring America is strategically positioned to meet our rising energy demands and continue our growth into the AI and technology-driven future our economy requires.” “The ‘War on Coal’, launched by the Obama Administration and continued by the Biden Administration, destroyed American jobs and devastated communities whose lifelines depended on coal,” said Representative Griffith. “It is clear that coal is not going away anytime soon. Not only does the United States have the resources to be a leading coal supplier. But we can also make use of coal in a manner which is cleaner than anywhere else in the world. I welcome President Trump’s actions to support American coal jobs, boost America’s energy independence and rein in harmful regulations.” Read more about the executive orders here and here. |
