Today, Members of the Western Caucus released the following statements after President Trump announced his intent to nominate Dan Brouillette to be Secretary of Energy:

Western Caucus Chairman Paul Gosar (AZ-04): "There is no better person to fill the void that Rick Perry will leave behind at the Department of Energy than Dan Brouillette. Dan is battle-tested and will help implement President Trump's Energy Dominance agenda. I applaud President Trump for elevating Dan to the position of Secretary of Energy, and I look forward to his quick confirmation."

Republican Whip Steve Scalise (LA-01): "I applaud President Trump for nominating Deputy Secretary Dan Brouillette to be the next Energy Secretary. Brouillette, who is a fellow Louisianan, has been a strong advocate for the President’s American Energy Dominance strategy, and he knows how important American energy security and dominance is here at home and also around the world. I look forward to continuing to work with him in his new capacity."

Background:

On October 18, 2019, President Trump announced his intent to nominate Dan Brouillette to be the next Secretary of Energy. Dan Brouillette currently serves as the Deputy Secretary for the Department of Energy. In August 2017, the Senate confirmed Dan Brouillette in a bipartisan 79-17 vote.

Mr. Brouillette has three decades of experience in both the public and private sector. Most recently he was the Senior Vice President and head of public policy for USAA, the Nation’s leading provider of financial services to the military community. Before joining USAA, Mr. Brouillette was a Vice President of Ford Motor Company, where he led the automaker’s domestic policy teams and served on its North American Operating Committee.

Before his transition into the private sector, Mr. Brouillette held numerous positions in government.  He was Chief of Staff to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce, which has broad jurisdictional and oversight authority over five Cabinet-level Federal agencies.  He also served as Assistant Secretary of Energy for Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs from 2001 to 2003.  In addition, he is a former state energy regulator, having served as a member of the Louisiana State Mineral and Energy Board from 2013 to 2016.
