Western Caucus Applauds Nomination of Dan Brouillette to be Secretary of Energy

Today, Members of the Western Caucus released the following statements after President Trump announced his intent to nominate Dan Brouillette to be Secretary of Energy:

Western Caucus Chairman Paul Gosar (AZ-04): "There is no better person to fill the void that Rick Perry will leave behind at the Department of Energy than Dan Brouillette. Dan is battle-tested and will help implement President Trump's Energy Dominance agenda. I applaud President Trump for elevating Dan to the position of Secretary of Energy, and I look forward to his quick confirmation."

Republican Whip Steve Scalise (LA-01): "I applaud President Trump for nominating Deputy Secretary Dan Brouillette to be the next Energy Secretary. Brouillette, who is a fellow Louisianan, has been a strong advocate for the President’s American Energy Dominance strategy, and he knows how important American energy security and dominance is here at home and also around the world. I look forward to continuing to work with him in his new capacity." 

Chairman Emeritus Rob Bishop (UT-01): "Dan Brouillette’s track record of service to this county is beyond admirable. I have every confidence that the Department of Energy will be well-guided with Dan at the helm. The Trump Administration has repeatedly emphasized the importance of energy independence and with Mr. Brouillette heading the DOE, the president has a proven ally in that effort."  

Vice-Chairman for Indian Affairs and Oceans Don Young (AK-At Large): "Secretary Rick Perry has been a strong leader at the Department of Energy, and a steadfast partner for Alaska. I would like to thank him for all of his hard work and dedication to making America energy independent. I have no doubt that Deputy Secretary Dan Brouillette will continue the important work of helping promote American energy dominance. I wish him well as he begins the confirmation process and look forward to working with him on behalf of Alaska."

Regulatory Reform Officer Andy Biggs (AZ-05): "President Trump made the right choice in nominating Dan Brouillette as the next Secretary of Energy.  His decades-long experience on Capitol Hill, at the Department of Energy, and in the private sector makes him the ideal candidate to continue spearheading the administration’s energy-dominance agenda.  I applaud Secretary Rick Perry on a job well-done and wish him well in his future endeavors.  I urge my Senate colleagues to move swiftly through the confirmation process."

Chief Agriculture and Business Officer Doug LaMalfa (CA-01): "I applaud President Trump’s nomination of current Deputy Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette to be the next Secretary of the Department of Energy. Dan is someone who has sacrificed to serve his country in the Army and has been a leader in establishing America’s energy dominance while at DOE. I’m fully confident the Senate will confirm him in a bipartisan manner, just as they did before, and I look forward to working with him to help secure America’s future energy sustainability." 

Congressman Garret Graves (LA-06): "The United States and the world are at an important juncture in terms of energy technologies and evolving global players.  Having spent a number of years staffing with Dan, it is clear that he is an outstanding choice to be the next Secretary of Energy.  He will lead America’s energy revolution while ensuring strategic, rational decisions."

Congressman Greg Walden (OR-02): "While it will be hard to replace the drive, enthusiasm, and spirit that Rick Perry brought to the Department of Energy, I am confident that Deputy Secretary Brouillette will transition into this leadership role seamlessly. Secretary Brouillette was a former staff director of the Energy and Commerce Committee, and as the Republican Leader of the committee I look forward to working closely with him. I know that together we will continue to protect and advance the energy interests of Oregon and the West as well as the progress on energy security, innovation, and dominance made under Secretary Perry."

Dan is a U.S. Army veteran with years of experience in both the public and private sectors, having served on Louisiana’s State Mineral and Energy Board. I’m sure he will do his best to fortify America’s energy independence by promoting policies to expand and strengthen America’s domestic energy production."

Background:

On October 18, 2019, President Trump announced his intent to nominate Dan Brouillette to be the next Secretary of Energy. Dan Brouillette currently serves as the Deputy Secretary for the Department of Energy. In August 2017, the Senate confirmed Dan Brouillette in a bipartisan 79-17 vote.

Mr. Brouillette has three decades of experience in both the public and private sector. Most recently he was the Senior Vice President and head of public policy for USAA, the Nation’s leading provider of financial services to the military community. Before joining USAA, Mr. Brouillette was a Vice President of Ford Motor Company, where he led the automaker’s domestic policy teams and served on its North American Operating Committee.

Before his transition into the private sector, Mr. Brouillette held numerous positions in government.  He was Chief of Staff to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce, which has broad jurisdictional and oversight authority over five Cabinet-level Federal agencies.  He also served as Assistant Secretary of Energy for Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs from 2001 to 2003.  In addition, he is a former state energy regulator, having served as a member of the Louisiana State Mineral and Energy Board from 2013 to 2016.
